The Raspberry Pi Pico W board is powered by the RP2040 micro controller in the same Pico form factor featuring WiFi connectivity. This is a really interesting board that comes in at an affordable price of $6. In many ways it acts just like the Raspberry Pi Pico, just with WiFi and maybe Bluetooth in the future! It measures in at 51.3 x 21mm. The RP2040 chip supports 4 12-bit ADC channels (4 are user inputs and one measures internal temperature), two UARTs, two SPI and I2C controllers. It also has 8 PIO state machines, USB 1.1 host and device support and 16 PWM channels. Programming the Challenger RP2040 WiFi boards is exactly the same as programming the Pico. It can be programmed using the Raspberry Pi RP2040 SDK. Just press the boot select button whilst plugging the USB-C cable in and drag and drop the UF2 file onto the Challenger RP2040 WiFi. It will then reboot and run your program! It can also be programmed in MicroPython and CircuitPython. The Pico W has the same pinout and form factor as the original Pico and has WiFi capabilities. Raspberry Pi also released a new UF2 file and several samples using microPython with the new WiFi chip. However, although they did release a C SDK, there was no update to the Arduino IDE for the new microcontroller. But you CAN use the Pico W with the Arduino IDE by using a new boards manager file that covers virtually every RP2040-based board. And today, I’ll show you how to install that for the classic Arduino IDE 1.8 and the newer IDE 2.0. After installing the new boards manager, we’ll give it a test. Then we’ll see how we can use the new WiFi features to control LEDs and servo motors with a web-based interface. Raspberry Pi Pico VS ESP32 S2 speed comparison benchmark using CircuitPython Which board is faster? 🛒 ESP32 S2: 🤍 🛒 Raspberry Pi Pico: 🤍 🛒 Display: 🤍 🛒 USB Meter: 🤍 💻 Code: 🤍 #circuitpython #educ8stv #raspberrypi In this video I am going to do a speed comparison between the Raspberry Pi Pico and the ESP32 S2 board, two of the most powerful and inexpensive boards for makers. Before running the computation speed benchmark, I have developed, let’s take a quick look at the most basic specs of each board to get a sense of what to expect. The Raspberry Pico board features two 32-bit Arm Cortex M0+ cores operating at 133Mhz. It also offers 264KBs of RAM memory and 2MB of Flash memory and it costs at the time of this recording around $7. The Lilygo ESP32 S2 Board on the other hand features a single-core 32-bit LX7 microcontroller operating at 240MHz. It also offers 320KBs of RAM memory and 4MBs of Flash memory. Its price today is around $8. So, based on the specifications, we can conclude that the ESP32 S2 is faster than the Raspberry Pi Pico in single-core workloads. How much faster is the question? We can't know without running a benchmark, because the boards employ processors with different architectures. Based on the operating frequencies of each board, we can estimate that the ESP32 S2 single core performance will be roughly 80% faster than the Raspberry Pi Pico's single core performance. Is this correct?

The first update is the Pico H, a #pico board with headers pre-mounted instead of classy gold-plated castellated solder contacts. It also has a new, tiny debug connector. Here is a short review about the new boards: 🤍 Buy Raspberry Pi Pico H: 🤍 The second update is the Pico W. Here the ‘W’ indicates ‘Wireless’. This board is a Pico board with a wireless LAN module added to it. This module is based on an Infineon CYW43439 chip featuring both IEEE 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 5.2 but only wireless LAN (meaning Wi-Fi for most people) is supported by the Pico W. Previously, we covered how to program the Raspberry Pi Pico using MicroPython. In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a simple blink program using C. We will also configure VS Code so that it can build projects with the push of a button. Note that the written version of this tutorial can be found here: 🤍 You will need to install the build tools for the RP2040. I recommend following Chapter 1 (for Linux) or Chapter 9 (for macOS and Windows) of the official Getting Started with Raspberry Pi Pico guide (🤍 Alternatively, if you are on Windows and do not wish to install Build Tools for Visual Studio, you can follow the guide here: 🤍 In VS Code, you will want to install the CMake and CMake Tools extensions. These tools will provide buttons on your status bar that allow you to build your project by clicking a button. All of your projects will need a unique CMakeLists.txt file, which tells the cmake tool how to generate the build files. CMake is a build system generator and does not actually build the program. The Raspberry Pi Pico SDK uses “make” as the actual build system. We can call cmake and make in the command line to build the project, or we can click on the CMake and Build buttons in VS Code to accomplish the same thing. To upload the compiled program, we put the Pico into bootloader mode by pressing and holding the BOOTSEL button when plugging in the USB cable. This will cause the Pico to enumerate as a USB drive on the computer. Then, copy the compiled .uf2 file to that drive. The Pico will reset and automatically start running the program. hs is a version of my model railway departure boards designed for use with a Raspberry Pi Pico W. This is an alternative to my Raspberry Pi version of the model railway departure board (🤍 This is part of my projects on building an indoor (OO Scale) and outdoor (G-Scale) model railway The FreeCAD design is based around G-Scale, but it would be possible to create a smaller version for other railways. This project creates a station departure board using a miniature OLED display. This is controlled using a Raspberry Pi Pico W which allows the current time to be used to make the display appear more realistic.
